Why the Gilbert Fund?

On August 5th of this year, my partner Cody and I  said goodbye to our dear cat friend Gilbert.  He showed up at my door when I was 17 and very depressed. Gilbert was a special cat that has deeply changed my life and I'm thankful for the 14 years we spent together. He taught me so much about life, love and death.

A local animal Sanctuary called Ladybird has a fund called the Gilbert fund in memory of a little cat that looked just like our cat friend Gilbert did when he was a kitten. Their Gilbert passed into spirit on November 3rd, 2011.

In memory of both of these Gilberts, Cody and I are running this event and donating half of the money raised to support other cats in needs. We're making dream catchers to help dreams come true.

About the The Gilbert Fund:

Help our special needs animals get the care they deserve.

2011 was Ladybird’s first year as an active rescue. During this year as we were working to gain community support, we rescued a sweet kitten named Gilbert. We had no way of knowing that Gilbert had undiagnosed medical conditions. We covered the cost of expensive testing and treatments, but it was eventually decided that sweet Gilbert was not going to recover and the tough decision to humanely euthanize him was made. This was a stressful and heartbreaking experience for Ladybird and our supporters.

We decided to start The Gilbert Fund, in honour of special needs animals who may require expensive testing, treatments and medications in an attempt to give them a second chance at the best life possible.

About Ladybird Animal Sanctuary

Ladybird Animal Sanctuary is a unified voice for abandoned, abused and neglected animals. Together, through a network of volunteers, foster homes, educators, animal lovers and exceptionally generous people, we aim to eliminate the unnecessary suffering of domestic animals in local shelters.

Ladybird rescues cats, dogs and small animals and is a champion for seniors, those with costly medical issues, and so-called ‘hard to adopt’ animals. Through the countless lives forever impacted through Ladybird’s efforts, we know that every life is worth saving and that a loving home awaits all these deserving creatures.

Since 2011, Ladybird has rescued over 1,000 animals from high-volume shelters in Ontario and Quebec.:
